Edge Entertainment proudly presents the acquisition of four brand new titles for 2021

After a successful attendance at the Stockholm International Film Festival and the AFM, Edge Entertainment can proudly present the acquisition of four new exciting titles that will premiere across the Nordic and Baltic market in 2021. First out is Agnieszka Holland’s renowned biopic Charlatan, followed by debut sensation Spring Blossom by young director Suzanne Lindon. Edge has also acquired the rights to Jean-Paul Salmoés acclaimed comedy Mama Weed starring Isabelle Huppert as well as the Venice Film Festival 2020 opener The Ties by Daniele Luchetti.

Charlatan
(Czech Republic, Ireland, Slovakia, Poland, 2020) by Agnieszka Holland

Based on the true story of Jan Mikolášek, the Czech herbalist who during the turn of the 20th century diagnosed and healed millions of people using his intuition and his familiarity with plants. As Mikolášek gains more reputation and wealth thanks to his remarkable gifts, he start getting the attention from both the Nazi and Communist regime.

Charlatan is directed by the acclaimed polish director Agnieszka Holland (Mr. Jones, Spoor, etc.) and was selected as the Czech's official Oscar submission 2021. The film had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival 2020 and has been nominated for the prestigious prize Best Director at the European Film Awards. Edge has acquired the rights for Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland from Films Boutique.

Spring Blossom
(France, 2020) by Suzanne Lindon

Spring Blossom stars Suzanne Lindon as Suzanne, a teenage girl from Paris who develops a relationship with Raphaël, an older actor she meets outside a theatre in Montmartre.

Spring Blossom is directed, produced and written by Suzanne Lindon who also plays the leading role in the film. She started writing the script at 15 years of age, and started shooting the film at the age of 19. Now at 20, her debut film has been selected as official selection in Cannes, Toronto as well as in San Sebastian where it played in the New Directors Competition. The film has received rave reviews and has immediately demonstrated that Suzanne Lindon is a major talent to watch. Edge Entertainment has acquired the rights for the Nordic and Baltic territories from Luxbox.

Mama Weed

Patience is a police translator specialized in phone tappings for the anti-narcotics unit in Paris. Brought in the middle of a drug network, she gets her hands on a huge load of hash. She seizes the opportunity and becomes "La Daronne", drug wholesaler, thanks to her field experience...

Mama Weed is a wild comedy starring the inimitable Isabelle Huppert in a new gonzo performance from the legendary actress. The film has been a box office success in several countries, including Germany and Austria where the film scored the strongest opening for a French film in 2020. The film was released in France by Le Pacte on September 9th to great critical acclaim. Edge Entertainment has acquired the rights for the Nordic territories from Le Pacte.

The Ties
(Italy, France, 2020) by Daniele Luchetti

A heartfelt marriage-in-crisis drama set in Naples and Rome over a forty years period, following Aldo and Vand who goes through a separation, after he reveals his affair. But the ties that keep people together are inescapable, even without love. Now, 30 years later, Aldo and Vanda are still married.

The Ties is directed by Daniele Luchetti, acclaimed director of films such as La nostra vita and My Brother Is an Only Child. The film is based on the best selling novel Ties by Domenico Starnone and is the first Italian production in 11 years to be selected as the Venice Film Festival opener, where it was met with high praise from both critics and the audience. The all-star cast includes Alba Rohrwacher, Luigi Lo Cascio and Laura Morante. The film is produced by Beppe Caschetto, the veteran producer behind The Traitor and Martin Eden. Edge Entertainment has acquired the rights for the Nordic and Baltic territories from MK2.
