Edge Entertainment proudly presents the acquisition of Italian director Matteo Garrone's fantasy film Pinocchio. The film had its international premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in 2020 and is a slightly more faithful interpretation of the original story than the classic Disney film from 1940. Pinocchio has since become Garrone's biggest commercial success in Italy – ever.

In Garrone's live-action interpretation of the classic Italian saga, we get to know wood carver Geppetto (played by Oscar-winning Roberto Benigni) whose wooden doll Pinocchio is brought to life under magical circumstances. The gullible Pinocchio (played by up-and-coming Federico Ielapi) is easily misled, which takes him on an adventurous journey filled with magical creatures and fantastic spectacles among friends and enemies. However, the dream of becoming a real boy can only be realized if he starts listening to his father once and for all.

With groundbreaking technology, astonishing special effects and makeup (signed twofold Oscar-winning Mark Coulier) and stunning Italian landscapes, Garrone recreates the world-famous story of Pinocchio like we have never seen before. In addition to the director himself, the film is also produced by, among others, Jeremy Thomas, also a former Oscar winner. Edge Entertainment has acquired the rights for the Nordic region from Hanway Films.

Pinocchio premieres in Swedish cinemas on December 4, 2020.
