Farewell to Europe

Stefan zweig: Farewell to europe

Stefan Zweig: Farewell to Europe follows the years of exile in the life of Stefan Zweig, one of the most read German-language writers of his time. Having to escape the Nazi regime in his native Austria, Zweig travels between Buenos Aires, New York and Brazil. As a Jewish intellectual, Zweig struggles to find the right stance towards the events in Nazi Germany, while searching for a home in the new world.

Director Maria Schrader offers a unique and fascinating film, which covers the renowned author’s life in exile, showing him struggling to come to terms with the war in Europe and his own stance towards his now lost heimatland. The film opened to rave reviews and great box office results in Germany. The film is Austria’s official selection as the nominee for best foreign language film at the Academy Awards.
